Rider Switch: Don’t Miss the Best Rides At Disney

Rider Switch, also known as Rider Swap or Child Swap, is a great service provided at Walt Disney World. It allows adult guests to take turns experiencing attractions while another adult waits with a child who does not meet the height requirements. This is a lifesaver for parents traveling with toddlers and small children.

One of the great things about Walt Disney World is the abundance of family-friendly rides for all ages. Check out this post for our list of Toddler-Friendly Rides at Magic Kingdom. There are also plenty of rides geared specifically toward older kids and adults. For those instances, Rider Switch is the perfect tool for families traveling with toddlers.

Here’s how Rider Switch it works:

  1. Approach the attraction: The entire party, including both adults and children, approaches the attraction entrance.
  2. Request Rider Switch: Let a cast member know that you’d like to use the Rider Switch service. They will provide instructions and usually use MagicBands or park tickets to scan the party in.
  3. Divide into groups: The party will be divided into two groups: Group 1 and Group 2. Group 1 will consist of the first adult who will ride, and any accompanying guests. Group 2 will include the second adult who will stay with the child or children.

NOTE: If using a service such as Genie+ or DAS, all members must have an active reservation for the ride.
  4. First adult rides: Group 1 proceeds to ride the attraction while the second adult and child wait in a designated area.
  5. Swap: Once Group 1 finishes the ride, they locate Group 2 and take over child supervision. The second adult can then proceed to the attraction’s Genie+ line. There they can scan their tickets or MagicBands to gain access without waiting in the regular queue.
  6. Second adult rides: Group 2, which now consists of the second adult and any accompanying guests, can experience the attraction without waiting in the regular queue. Guests who rode with the first adult may ride again with the second adult, that way no one has to ride alone!

The Rider Switch service allows both adults to enjoy the attraction while minimizing wait times and ensuring that children who cannot ride due to height or age restrictions are always supervised. It’s important to note that the exact process and procedures may vary slightly for each attraction. It’s advisable to check with a cast member at the specific attraction for any instructions or modifications to the process.
